June 27th - Between Europe and Asia; Atyrau town

Atyrau > town between Asia and Europe
Atyrau > town between Asia and Europe

Today we are in Atyrau, famous town for its oil and fish industries. Its Kazakhstan`s main harbour city on the Caspian sea at the delta of the Ural river.

The city is considered to be located both in Asia and Europe, as it is divided by the Ural River (see pics on the left). Its a big step for us and Europe is showing up slowly. Cars, buildings, culture, food and others aspect makes us feel closer to home.

Lets get back to last night. We spent all night fighting against mosquitos and around 5am, they won and we decided to leave the place. Pictures below may be shocking, please make sure you are above 18 years old :)

We left around 6am and tried to keep awake for the all way until Atyrau. 230Km to listening music, making jokes and playing race with cars to stay awake.

We had a quick break half way and Nico fell asleep while seating. This guys is incredible ! He can sleep anywhere but obviously he has the same problem than me; facing to mosquitos hahaha...

We met a french couple, traveling with a 4x4 at the Uzbek border and they warned us about mosquitos issues along the Caspian sea. We did not take it seriously but believe me, last night was a survival war and we killed around 80 enemies.

Tonight should be better, we checked in a 3 stars hotel in Atyrau. It will cost us quite more to stay here for 4 days before Russian border but Atyrau is a pretty expensive city.

So unless you`re here to work in the oil industry, otherwise there is not much reason to linger.
