June 16,17 &18th - Bukhara (Step 2)

280KM done in 4 hours !!!

A pretty good average for the Kawa and Benelli especially with roads conditions.

We left as 5.30am as planned and had an early fresh ride... Samarkand is 35 degrees and Bukhara 42, so we took an important decision to wake up early these days (yeah we hate it)...But in fact, we quite like it...Bukhara is the 2nd steps of our 1800Km Uzbekistan country crossing from Samarkand until the north border.

Samarkand > Bukhara > Khiva > Nukus > Kungrad and finally Kazhakstan (welcome back again). Do you remember the Sharyn Canyon ?? just after China, it was Kazakstan but we just crossed the country in 2 days going down directly to Kyrgyzstan. Now we are back to ride the driest part of the country...A Mad max ride i would say.

Bukhara count around 140 architectural monuments. Located on the Silk Road, it has been for long time a center of trade, scholarship and Culture. The historical center which contains numerous of mosques has been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Bukhara has many names but word to word translated as `place of Good Fortune`...

So we spent 3 full days, trying to looking for any sign of Fortune but the only gold we found is some precious liters of SP95 !! The more we are getting north and the more it is becoming rare...So we made some reserve; water bottles, extra full tank...From now on, our main friend is called PETROL SP91, 93 or 95

Below, you will find a summarize of what we saw in Bukhara;

# The Kalyan Minaret, knows as the `Tower of Death`.Criminals were executed by being thrown off from the top. A free fall of 50 meters high...
# Kalan Mosque, similar as Bibi mosque seen in Samarkand, able to welcome 12000 people.
# The Char Minor, the main edifice cornered with tower is a mosque. The 4 towers were used as classroom and library.
# Bukhara fortress, Ark is massive fortress built around the 5th century to protect the little town.

Next step Khiva, hopefully we can make it in 1 day ride (Around 420km), planning to leave around 4am tomorrow morning.
